Dutch Research Council (NWO)

The Dutch Research Council (NWO) is the Netherlands' national research funding organization that distributes research grants through competitive tender procedures. NWO evaluates and ranks applications based on objective criteria, awarding funding to the highest-scoring proposals. As a rule, NWO distributes research grants via a tender procedure. The applications submitted within a funding round are assessed and then ranked on the basis of objective criteria. The best applications end up highest and are therefore the first to be eligible for a subsidy. The grants are awarded in order of this ranking, until the available grant budget has been exhausted.
