The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation is one of the largest private foundations in the United States, dedicated to strengthening, promoting, and defending the humanities and arts. Founded in 1969, the Foundation provides grants to institutions of higher education, cultural organizations, and nonprofit organizations working in areas including higher learning, arts and cultural heritage, and preserving and interpreting historical sites.
